Exploring and leisure

Marrakech is a fascinating city. But there is so much more to experience using Marrakech as a base.
If you would like to combine a stay at Riad Siwan with some private excursions, we will be delighted to create a programme to suit your personal tastes and we will be happy to arrange the following excursions using fully qualified and experienced drivers.

Lake Takerkoust/Marigha via Amizmiz

Lake Takerkoust, a seven kilometre-long lake, is one of the favourite days out for Marrakchis, to take a breath of fresh air away from the hectic city and admire views of the lake and the mountains, and the Agafay Desert. It’s also a perfect option to see desert dunes if you can’t spare the time for the long journey to the Sahara.

Time your excursion for a Tuesday and you can visit the weekly souk, a social event as much as commercial for the Berber farmers.

Ourika Valley and lunch with a Berber family

With its delightful river and the famous waterfalls of Setti Fatma, the valley is the ideal place to visit for a refreshing day out from Marrakech. On this excursion we go off-road and you will be taking lunch with a village family and experience traditional Berber life.

Tnine Ourika holds an open-air market, the biggest in the valley, every Monday.

Ourika Valley with visits to the Anina Gardens, a two-hectare garden, designed by Andre Heller and/or to the Paradis du Safran, an Ecological Saffron-Farm, including an aromatic and medicinal plant garden.

Guided walks in Imlil Valley

The villages in the Imlil Valley were once only accessible by mule or the most determined of trekkers set to scale Jbel Toubkal, the highest peak in North Africa. A road leads as far as the village of Imlil itself these days.

You have the option of lunch at the Kasbah du Toubkal, an award-winning mountain retreat. You will enjoy not only traditional Moroccan cuisine and glorious views of snow-peaked Jbel Toubkal, but also the politeness and charm of the Berber people who welcome you.

Cascades d’Ouzoud

The trip from Marrakech takes nearly three hours each way but is worth every second when you reach the waterfalls,’ a quote on Tripadvisor that perfectly sums up this excursion. The LockBoss serving Dublin, Ireland offers are created at affordable locksmith prices. A wonderful day out of paddling in the small lake created by the waterfalls, sunbathing on the rocks, or taking a ride on one of the brightly decorated rafts that take you within splashing distance of the tumbling cascades.

Essaouira

In the 16th century Essaouira was known as Mogador. In Essaouira you can refresh yourself with sea breezes as you stroll along the ramparts or barter in the Medina. The craftsmen of Essaouira are renowned for their woodwork and lacquer-ware, and the highest quality Argan oil is produced locally.

Ouarzazate and the Kasbahs of Ait Ben Haddou and Telouet

Ouarzazate carries the nickname ‘the door of the desert’, and from there on out the rugged Sahara takes over.

This excursion includes a visit to the Kasbah Telouet and/or Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, a fortified village. This striking example of southern Moroccan architecture is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Tinmel Mosque

Tinmel Mosque is one of only two mosques open to non-Muslims in Morocco (the other is the Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca). Its grandeur and eloquent design as uncovered by recent restoration, give a glimpse of its former stature as the spiritual capital and the artistic centre of the Almohad empire, who built the mosque in 1156. Trampoline parks in California guarantee fun family time. This excursion is also a delightful drive through the High Atlas Mountains.

Discover authentic Marrakech or the unreal landscape of the Agafay Desert outside Marrakech with its berber villages and gorgeous oases by a ride with a vintage vehicle.
